Sharapova pulls out of Cincinnati Open

Maria Sharapova has been forced to pull out of the Cincinnati Open after picking up a leg injury.

The world number two had been out of action since Wimbledon due to concerns over a problem in her right leg, and she had delayed a return for another week after initially planning to play in the Rogers Cup.

However, Sharapova has decided against taking any risks with her fitness as he looks ahead to the US Open.

"It's a tough decision to make, but I think it's the right decision to be ready for the US Open," she told reporters.

Lucky loser Mirjana Lucic-Baroni will take Sharapova's spot in the draw.
