Maria Sharapova through in Australian Open

Maria Sharapova has reached round three of the Australian Open after a convincing straight-sets victory over the USA's Jamie Hampton.

Despite some impressive ground strokes from Hampton, the Russian proved too good in the first set as she took it 6-0.

The American won her first game at the start of the second, but Sharapova powered through to a 6-1 win.

The 24-year-old previously won the tournament in 2008.
