Philipp Kohlscreiber into second round

Philipp Kohlschreiber has no problems in sealing a straight-sets victory over Belgium's Steve Darcis in the first round of the Australian Open.

Philipp Kohlschreiber has comfortably disposed of Australian Open first-round opponent Steve Darcis in straight sets.

The 29-year-old was rarely troubled by the Belgian, who won just 18 of 78 points on Kohlschreiber's serve.

The German was in no mood to hang around in the first set, in which he took both of his break-point opportunities to wrap up a 6-2 triumph in 26 minutes.

It was not all plain sailing in the second for Kohlschreiber, as the unforced errors began to creep into his game.

However, he won only needed one break of serve to clinch a two-set lead.

Kohlscreiber continued to dominate on his first serve in the final set as he closed it out 6-4 to advance to the next round.

He will now play Israel's Amir Weintraub in the next round.
