David Ferrer strolls into quarter-finals

David Ferrer has advanced to the quarter-finals of the Australian Open with a 6-4 6-4 6-1 win over Richard Gasquet.

Ferrer, ranked fifth in the world, won the first set 6-4 after taking advantage of Gasquet's sloppy second serve.

Frenchman Gasquet put up a fight in the second but could not overcome Ferrer's control over the match.

Ferrer dominated the third and final set, breaking early before taking it 6-1.

The Spaniard goes on to face either Lleyton Hewitt or Novak Djokovich in his third Australian Open quarter final.
