Serena Williams: 'Venus Williams win helped me improve'

Serena Williams admits that the success of her sister helped her to record a victory over Elina Svitolina in the third round of the Australian Open.

Serena Williams has claimed that learning of a victory for Venus Williams gave her a crucial boost on the way to beating Elina Svitolina.

After falling a set behind Williams responded emphatically to progress past her Ukrainian rival, and she was quick to credit the influence of her sister, who recorded a similar comeback triumph over Camila Giorgi.

"It was a good match, she made me work hard and try to improve things I need to improve," the world number one revealed on the court after the win. "When in doubt start running, that's what Venus always told me, and that helped.

"I looked up & saw Venus was up 4-1 and thought 'come on Serena, you can do it too'. We always motivate each other."

The top seed will meet Garbine Muguruza in the fourth round.
