Coco Vandeweghe: 'Hard work has paid off after Samantha Stosur scalp'

Coco Vandeweghe says that the hard work she has put in during the past 12 months is paying off, after she beat Samantha Stosur.

Coco Vandeweghe has said that her hard work over the last year has paid off, after she beat Samantha Stosur in the Australian Open second round.

The American dominated the match as she registered a 6-4 6-4 win against the 20th seed, and she is already looking forward to her next match against compatriot Madison Brengle.

She told reporters: "Last year I lost in the first-round in the qualies here so it's big difference, but I have made improvements to my game and I put in the hard work, especially last year and in the off-season this year.

"I have played Madison maybe twice in a challenger or two, so I haven't played her for a while. It's kind of a new thing to play her in a Grand Slam so I will be as ready as I can."

Vandeweghe has risen to 37th in the rankings this season.
