Hewitt quells retirement talk

Former world number one Lleyton Hewitt has denied claims that he could announce his retirement from tennis in the New Year.

The 31-year-old has recently overcome a serious foot injury and is now targeting a winning run at the Australian Open in January.

When asked if he would consider retiring after the tournament in his home nation he told reporters: "I seriously doubt it.

"I'd say I'll be back again. I'm playing all next year. I can't see myself getting to the Paris indoors and not the Australian Open a month later."

Hewitt is currently ranked at world number 78.
