Gabon secure first ever Olympic medal

Anthony Obame has secured Gabon its first ever Olympic medal by progressing to the final of the men's over-80kgs at ExCel.

The 23-year-old overcame three-time world champion Bahri Tanrikulu of Turkey by a scoreline of 3-2, courtesy of a successfully-landed body kick on the buzzer in the final round.

"It's a fantastic satisfaction to get the first medal for my country since Gabon participated at the Olympic Games for the first time in 1972," said Obame.

"I've still a chance to get even the gold medal in the final and I don't want to throw it away.

"I really hope that I can put in a good performance for me, my family and my country."

Rome policeman and 2010 European champion Carlo Molfetta awaits Obame in the final.
