England settle for silver in Singapore loss

England men win silver in the table tennis team event at the Commonwealth Games after losing to Singapore in the final.

England's men have won silver in table tennis at the Commonwealth Games after losing this afternoon's final to Singapore in the teams event.

The Asians drew first blood in the best-of-five clash when Jian Zhan beat Paul Drinkhall 3-2 in a tense opening singles match at Scotstoun Campus.

The second game did not prove as nervy, however, as Ning Gao cruised to a 3-0 victory over Liam Pitchford to help Singapore edge closer to a third gold at this year's Games.

Team England refused to go quietly and made their opponents work for the gold, but their resistance ultimately waned and they settled for second place on the podium.
