Wales pip England to bronze in women's medley

Wales have beaten England to the bronze medal in the prestigious women's 4x100m medley relay event at the Commonwealth Games.

England found themselves in fourth place after the first leg, narrowly behind Wales, with the gap only widening as the race went on - and despite Anna Hopkin producing an impressive final leg, it was not enough to force a spot on the podium.

The battle for gold was an incredibly tense affair between host nation Australia and Canada, who found themselves neck and neck on the final leg as home favourite Bronte Campbell went up against Taylor Ruck.

It was too close to call as the finish approached, with the roar of the crowd helping to seal yet another gold for the Aussies with a new Games-record time of 3:54.36.

Team Scotland finished fifth with a time of 4:05.17, more than two seconds clear of New Zealand and seven clear of South Africa.
