Team England's Elizabeth Simmonds edged into fourth in 200m backstroke

Team England swimmer Elizabeth Simmonds has been edged out of the medals in the women's 200m backstroke final on Sunday, with gold going to Australia's Belinda Hocking.

Hocking led almost from the start and ended up with a Commonwealth Games record time of 2:07.24 to win the race ahead of her teammate Emily Seebohm.

Seebohm's time was some 1.27s further back at 2:08.51, with the final medal going to Canada's Hilary Caldwell, who was not far behind the silver medal spot.

Then came Simmonds of England, who just ran out of strength with 25m left, and her compatriot Lauren Quigley notched fifth in the final.
