Ben Proud hopes to benefit from day off ahead of 50m freestyle semi-final

Proud hopes to benefit from rest day

Commonwealth gold medallist Ben Proud believes that he can be in a strong position heading into tonight's 50m freestyle semi-final after having a day off.

The 19-year-old swam the fastest time of 22.21 seconds in this morning's heat at Tollcross, but was able to rest yesterday after failing to make the 100m freestyle final.

When asked by Sports Mole if he feels like he has benefitted from his rest day, the Team England star said: "Yeah, definitely. The 100m free wasn't great, so I managed to get a day off, and I found myself just resting and getting my head around today. I think it will do me some good."

Proud won gold in the 50m butterfly final last week, and also picked up a bronze in the 4x100m freestyle relay.
