Adam Peaty finally wins the gold medal in the 50m breaststroke at the Commonwealth Games after taking silver in the event in 2014 and 2018.

England's Adam Peaty finally added a Commonwealth Games 50m breaststroke gold to his list of achievements with a dominant performance in the pool on Tuesday evening.

The three-time Olympic champion could only place fourth in the 100m event after taking the title in 2014 and 2018, but he would settle for silver in the 50m at Glasgow and the Gold Coast.

Peaty cut a relatively unfazed figure after the 100m but came out fighting to finish atop the podium in the 50m, ending with 26.76 seconds on the clock to take the gold.

"That was the only one I haven't won in my career, the Commonwealth 50m and I can retire now. I don't care about the stats, tonight was about racing, who was going to get on the wall first," Peaty told BBC Sport.

"I had two options this morning I either fight or don't fight. Everyone who knows me, knows I fight. I am so glad I got that loss earlier in the week because these wins feel so much more alive and so much better.

"That means so much to me, because what I have been through the last five years, I lost my spark towards the beginning of the week and I have it back now."

The silver medal went to Sam Williamson of Australia with a time of 26.97, as Ross Murdoch took bronze for Scotland with 27.32. James Wilby - who won the 100m gold - settled for sixth.
