Vanessa Sahinovic being kept in induced coma following operation

Austria synchronised swimmer Vanessa Sahinovic is being kept in an induced coma following a lengthy operation after the 15-year-old was involved in a collision with a bus.

Austrian synchronised swimmer Vanessa Sahinovic is being kept in an induced coma following surgery after an incident that saw the 15-year-old and two other teammates hit by a bus at the 2015 European Games in Baku.

Sahinovic suffered multiple bone fractures on Thursday, with Sky Sports News reporting that the swimmer is now being described as "stable".

"Vanessa underwent a very long operation having arrived back in Vienna on Thursday evening and we believe the operation has helped to stabilise her condition," said Austrian team press officer Wolfgang Eichler.

"Our team doctor here in Baku is in constant contact with the team back in Vienna and we expect to be in a position to provide more information about the extent of the injuries to the respective athletes in due course."

Austria National Olympic Committee president Karl Stoss has since revealed that he is "very upset" in the wake of the incident at the Athletes' Village.
