Rob Howley full of admiration for "imposing" Sam Burgess

Howley impressed by "imposing" Burgess

Wales assistant coach Rob Howley has revealed his admiration for the "imposing" Sam Burgess ahead of Saturday's World Cup meeting with England at Twickenham.

Despite playing just 112 minutes of Test rugby, Burgess has continued his impressive rise since switching codes to earn a spot in the starting lineup as a replacement for Jonathan Joseph, who will miss the game with a chest injury.

After hearing of Stuart Lancaster's decision to include the centre for the Pool A clash, Howley claims that the Rugby League convert will provide a stern test for Wales.

"Andy Farrell introduced me to him on the Lions tour in 2013. He's an imposing figure," Warren Gatland's assistant told reporters.

"I was impressed when he played with [Henry] Slade against France. His ability to run hard lines and having that creative edge outside makes it more difficult defensively.

"It is important when playing against players like Sam to close down their space. It will be a challenge if Sam is playing at 12 at the weekend."

Owen Farrell and Billy Vunipola have also been handed starts by Lancaster, who has made three changes for his side's second game.
