Sam Warburton "gutted" for injured duo

Wales captain Sam Warburton admits that he is "gutted" to see Leigh Halfpenny and Rhys Webb miss the World Cup due to injury.

Wales captain Sam Warburton has admitted that it is "devastating" to see Leigh Halfpenny and Rhys Webb ruled out of the World Cup due to injury.

Webb injured his foot in the victory over Italy on Saturday, while Halfpenny was forced off in the closing stages of the game after damaging knee ligaments.

After months of preparations for the tournament, Warburton believes that his teammates will find it difficult to accept that they will miss the campaign.

"I am gutted for both Rhys and Leigh because you see how hard they have worked throughout the summer," he told reporters.

"It has been two or three months of the most gruelling pre-season we have ever had and not to be able to make a World Cup is agonising.

"It's tough enough when it's part of the club season or missing the autumn internationals or a Six Nations, but to miss a World Cup where every player wants to play is devastating."

Wales begin their campaign against Uruguay next Sunday.
