USA's Scott La Valla ruled out of World Cup

USA Eagles forward Scott La Valla has been ruled out of the Rugby World Cup with a fractured elbow.

Stade Francais lock La Valla, 27, has 33 caps to his name and is seen as an essential part of an Eagles squad that has limited World Cup experience.

Seattle's Matt Trouville has been called up in his place.

"Scott has been a fantastic Eagle and has done so much to raise the level of play of the Eagles programme," coach Mike Tolkin told USA Rugby's official website.

"He has represented the national team with pride and distinction from age grade through to the senior level. All of the players and staff feel for Scott, and our hearts go out to him during this unfortunate turn of events."

It is potentially La Valla's last international action, with rumours about a career change to the US Marines circling.
