Wasps fall short against 14-man Leicester Tigers

Fourteen-man Leicester Tigers seal their place in the Aviva Premiership playoffs with a narrow 26-21 win over Wasps.

Wasps have been beaten 26-21 by Leicester Tigers in the Aviva Premiership this afternoon, despite the visitors playing over half of the match a man short.

The visitors made a strong start as Niall Morris and Vereniki Goneva both crossed the line inside the opening half an hour to give Leicester the advantage.

The Tigers, who knew that victory would book their spot in the playoffs, were dealt a blow before the break as Seremaia Baikeinuku went in head first in the ruck, earning himself a red card.

Wasps quickly took advantage of the sending off, with Andy Goode finishing the first half with four penalties to leave the home side just four points adrift at half time.

The fly-half continued to close the gap with the boot after the interval, but Adam Thompstone put the win beyond doubt inside the final 10 minutes with Leicester's third try of the afternoon.

The win moves Leicester up to third in the table, and guarantees them a top-four finish, while Wasps sit sixth.
