France beat Scotland but finish with Wooden Spoon in Six Nations

France have overcome Scotland 23-16 in the Six Nations finale tonight.

Late tries from Maxime Medard and Wesley Fofana helped the French on their way to victory with Frederic Michalak kicking the majority of the points, save for one conversion from Maxime Machenaud.

Tim Visser scored the Scots' only try with Greig Laidlaw kicking the rest of the points for the visitors.

Laidlaw got Scott Johnson's side off to a flyer when he kicked them into a 6-0 lead after the first quarter of an hour that lasted until the second half.

However, the home side forced their way back into the game with three kicks from Michalak giving them the lead in the match after 52 minutes.

Laidlaw claimed a hat-trick of his own seven minutes later before Fofana went over the line for the first try of the clash with 15 minutes left.

Medard then added a try of his own five minutes later before Machenaud kicked his first points of the match.

Visser went over the line for the Scots with five minutes remaining, but it was France who took the victory.

Despite the loss, this was Scotland's best finish to a Six Nations since 2006, as France ended with the Wooden Spoon.
