Frederic Michalak: 'France may have 2% chance against New Zealand'

Michalak plays down French hopes

Frederic Michalak has claimed that France may only have a "2% chance" of beating New Zealand in their World Cup quarter-final at the Millennium Stadium.

New Zealand cruised through to the last eight to continue the defence of their title, and they are currently on an eight-game winning run against Saturday's opposition.

France fly-half Michalak admits that the All Blacks have to be considered firm favourites, but he is hopeful that his teammates will rise to the occasion in Cardiff.

"They're the best team in the world and have the best players in every position. On paper they're the strongest side, but if we have that 2% chance we'll take it," Michalak told reporters.

"To win against New Zealand, you need to have a lot of quality, a strong set piece, a good scrum, a perfect lineout.

"You need defence like you've never had before. You must go everywhere on the field and defend with your heart."

New Zealand have lost just three games since winning the World Cup four years ago.
