Ten-week ban rules Chris Ashton out of Six Nations

Ban rules Ashton out of Six Nations

Saracens winger Chris Ashton will play no part for England in the Six Nations after he was banned for 10 weeks following an incident with Ulster's Luke Marshall.

The 28-year-old was cited for allegedly making contact with Marshall's eyes during the first half of Saturday's European Champions Cup clash between the two sides at Allianz Park.

At a disciplinary hearing in London this afternoon, the independent officer upheld the decision and subsequently suspended Ashton until late March.

That has ruled him out of the Six Nations, with England beginning their campaign in Scotland on February 6, before going on to play their final encounter in France on March 19.

Ashton, who earned the last of his 39 caps 18 months ago, has the right to appeal against his punishment.
