England flanker Tom Wood cleared to face Australia

Rugby World Cup organisers announce that England flanker Tom Wood is free to play in Saturday's Pool A clash with Australia.

Rugby World Cup organisers have announced that England flanker Tom Wood is free to play in Saturday's Pool A showdown with Australia.

The 28-year-old has been warned after striking Wales full-back Liam Williams in the 28-25 defeat at Twickenham over the weekend.

Wood's offence was deemed to only warrant the equivalent of a yellow card and he is therefore available to face Australia.

"Tom Wood has received a citing commissioner warning from Maurizio Vancini for striking an opponent in breach of Law 10.4 (a) in the 66th minute of England's Pool A match against Wales at Twickenham on 26 September," a statement on the Rugby World Cup website read.

"Under the Rugby World Cup 2015 disciplinary programme, a citing commissioner warning equates to a yellow card in sanction. A combination of three yellow cards or citing commissioner warnings accumulated during the tournament will result in a hearing. Wood is therefore free to play in England's next Pool A match against Australia."

England's match against the Wallabies takes place at Twickenham on Saturday.
