Luther Burrell 'frustrated' by centre competition in England squad

Luther Burrell admits that he is 'frustrated' by the number of centres fighting for places in England's Rugby World Cup squad.

Luther Burrell has admitted that he is 'frustrated' by the number of centres trying to get into England's squad for the Rugby World Cup.

Stuart Lancaster claimed that there is now pressure on Burrell following impressive performances from Sam Burgess and Henry Slade during Saturday's 19-14 win over France.

Despite describing the competition for places as "brutal", Burrell believes that the strength in depth is ultimately a good thing.

"There were seven or eight centres in the first three weeks of training camp and they are all quality players," he told The Telegraph.

"It is quite frustrating as a centre that we have got so many players coming through but it keeps you on your toes and keeps you grounded and grafting hard. It is brutal in an international squad.

"Nobody is irreplaceable so you have to stay in peak form and try to stay one step ahead at all times. Whatever combination they decide to go with, the balance and quality will be there."

Burrell has been named in England's starting lineup for this Saturday's return clash with France in Paris.
