Eddie Jones: 'Series whitewash would make England second best team in world'

England head coach Eddie Jones claims that completing a series whitewash against Australia would give his side the right to call themselves the second best in the world.

England head coach Eddie Jones has claimed that completing a series whitewash over Australia would give his side the right to call themselves the second best team in the world.

The Red Rose have already made history by taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series Down Under ahead of Saturday's third and final Test against the Wallabies.

Jones has made no secret of his desire to take England to the top of world rugby, and he believes that a third consecutive victory over last year's World Cup runners-up will be another step in the right direction.

"The only thing is we want to play our best 80 minutes this weekend. Attack-wise, we were reasonable in the first Test. Defensively, we were poor. Set pieces we were good at the lineout and average in the scrum in the first Test," he told reporters.

"In the second Test, our scrum was good, our lineout was average, our defence was outstanding and our attack was almost non-existent. So we would like to put together our best 80 because we still haven't seen the best of this team. We are on a learning curve and we want to keep improving.

"Winning 3-0 would mean we are taking another step up. We want to be the best team in the world and winning this series 3-0 would indicate that we have got the right to be the second best team in the world."

Jones also expects to have James Haskell and Jack Nowell available for selection despite injury concerns over both players.
