Austin Healey: 'Give Stuart Lancaster the job'

Austin Healey is adamant that Stuart Lancaster should be appointed the permanent coach of England.

Former England international Austin Healey believes that the Rugby Football Union should appoint Stuart Lancaster as the nation's coach on a permanent basis.

Lancaster has been in interim charge of England since Martin Johnson stepped down from the position last year.

Having guided England to three wins from four Six Nations matches, Healey is adamant that selecting anybody other than Lancaster would be "just wasting money".

"Stuart Lancaster embedded a lot of old ethos about playing for the shirt," Healey told BBC Radio Five Live. "That was missing from individuals at World Cup. I think he is exactly the right man for the job.

"If the RFU continue the process [of looking for a permanent coach] then they'd end up just wasting money. They should give him the job now and let him get on with it."

A decision is expected to be announced next month.
