Bristol Rugby back safe standing plans

Bristol Rugby say that they support Bristol City's plans to install rail seats at Ashton Gate.

Bristol Rugby have said that they are in full support of Bristol City's plans to install safe standing rail seats at their new shared home.

The Championship club currently play at the Memorial Stadium, which is the home of Bristol Rovers, but will move to Ashton Gate for the start of next season.

The Robins have become the first football club in the UK to install the seats, which have been placed in a 'demonstration block' for rugby matches.

"It's an important change for us," Bristol Rugby chief executive Steve Gorvett told BBC Sport.

"The rugby supporters are used to being able to stand, and if that's possible down here at Ashton Gate then that would be fantastic.

"We are very supportive of everything Bristol City are hoping to do. We'll just have to see how it evolves over the coming months."

Regulations currently prohibit the use of the seats during football matches.
