Tarquin McDonald: 'Bath ready for success'

Bath managing director Tarquin McDonald insists that the club is close to ending its trophy drought following their defeat in the Aviva Premiership final.

Bath managing director Tarquin McDonald has insisted that the club is ready to win silverware following their Aviva Premiership final defeat to Saracens.

Saturday's 28-16 loss at Twickenham Stadium means that it has now been seven years since Bath last lifted a trophy.

Meanwhile, the team has gone 19 years since last being crowned champions of England.

Despite a lack of success at the Recreation Ground in recent times, McDonald expects Bath to be challenging for honours again next season.

"We absolutely want to win titles," he told BBC Sport. "Clearly it's been longer than any of us would have liked. We think we are good enough and I don't think that weight of expectation is a burden on us. If anything it inspires us to be able to start thinking about the future.

"Next season we will be challenging. I think the squad we've got and the investment in additional players means we're in good stead to compete in both those competitions and that's what we want to do. We feel we are ready to win a trophy and bring a trophy back to Bath."

Bath finished the Aviva Premiership campaign in second place in the table.
