Super League champions Leeds Rhinos began the defence of their title with a 34-16 win over Hull KR at Headingley this evening.
Brett Delaney gave the hosts a third-minute lead when he touched down, but Kevin Sinfield was wayward with his kick.
Hull fought back and drew level thanks to Graeme Horne's try.
Brent Webb edged Leeds back in front when he touched down, but Horne again found the try line to make the score 8-8 at the break.
Kris Welham's try gave Hull a short-lived lead as two tries from Kallum Watkins gave Leeds the advantage.
David Hodgson's try got the visitors back into the match, but Watkins completed his hat-trick on 73 minutes to put Leeds out of sight.
Danny McGuire's try two minutes from time sealed an opening win for the Rhinos.
