Sam Tomkins wants future union switch

Sam Tomkins admits he would like to try rugby union at some stage in his career.

Rugby league star Sam Tomkins has hinted that he would like to switch codes in the coming years, despite recently moving to the NRL.

Tomkins, whose older brother Joel made his England union debut last autumn, released a statement in which he was quick to suggest that any move would be further into the future and that he would like to see out his three-year contract with the New Zealand Warriors.

He said: "It's not something that's on any time scale at the moment, but I'm 24 and hopefully I've got a number of years left in me, so at some point I'd like to give union a crack.

"It happens quite a lot now, look at Israel Folau. Kyle Eastmond in England has done it and converted well, as my brother has. To be a dual code international is certainly something I'd like on my CV."

Tomkins's former club Wigan lost 34-16 in Saturday's World Club Challenge against the Sydney Roosters.
