Phil Veivers named new Salford boss

Former St Helens full-back Phil Veivers has been appointed the new coach of Salford Reds.

The 47-year-old has stepped up from the role as assistant at the club to succeed Matt Parish, who resigned for personal reasons earlier this month.

Veivers applied for the job during the summer when Shaun McRae left the City of Salford Stadium, but the board opted for Parish.

The Australian spent 12 years playing for the Saints up until 1996.
