Hull FC's Fitzgibbon retires

Hull FC captain Craig Fitzgibbon has retired following an ankle injury.

The 34-year-old sustained a fracture and ligament damage during his side's 50-18 win over Castleford on Saturday.

"Craig is a giant in the game and will leave a legacy of professionalism that we will continue to benefit from in the coming years," said chief executive James Rule.

"He has made an enormous impact on our club both on and off the field.

"On behalf of the directors, staff, coaches, players and fans, I would like to thank Craig for his contribution to Hull and wish him and his family all the best in his future endeavours."

Fitzgibbon signed for Hull in 2009 after a successful career in Australia's NRL.
