Chase wins Super League Man of Steel

Castleford's Rangi Chase been named Super League Man of Steel for 2011 after being voted player of the year by his peers.

Chase beat off competition from Wigan full-back Sam Tomkins and St Helens hooker James Roby to win the prize.

The 25-year-old helped Castleford to a ninth-place league finish and played a pivotal part in their run to the Challenge Cup semi-finals.

The award follows the New Zealand born half-back's call-up to the England Four Nations squad.

St Helen's scrum-half Jonny Lomax was named Young Player of the Year.
