Australia win Rugby League World Cup

Australia have won the Rugby League World Cup for a 10th time by demolishing defending champions New Zealand 34-2 in a one-sided final.

The Kangaroos ran in five tries at Old Trafford. Bill Slater and Brett Morris scored two each, while Cooper Cronk also touched down.

All of Australia's tries were converted by Johnathan Thurston, who added two penalties, making him international rugby league's all-time most prolific points scorer.

As well as being clinical in attack, the champions were incredibly resolute in defence and Shaun Johnson's first-half penalty was the Kiwis' only score.

Australia have now not conceded a try in five whole matches since Josh Charnley crossed their line in the tournament's opening fixture.
