Leigh Centurions announce Rangi Chase departure

Leigh Centurions owner Derek Beaumont says that half-back Rangi Chase has left the Championship club.

Leigh Centurions half-back Rangi Chase has left the club to pursue 'a couple of opportunities' outside of rugby league.

Chase was just six months into a two-year contract after signing with the Championship leaders in November, but owner Derek Beaumont has announced that he has allowed the 30-year-old to leave the club with immediate effect.

Beaumont told BBC Radio Manchester: "He came to Leigh and wanted to fall back in love with the game. He came from a difficult situation from Salford and it's proven hard to do that.

"He's had a couple of things that have been made available to him as an opportunity and there are a couple of options he can explore outside of the game.

"He came and spoke to me and felt it was in his best interests if he was given that opportunity and I've accepted that."

The New Zealander had made five appearances for Leigh during the current campaign.
