Tim Sheens's men ran in 12 tries, with Jarred Hayne and Brett Morris going over four times each as Johnathan Thurston kicked seven of 12 goals.

The Aussies were ahead after just three minutes when Hayne touched down unopposed in the corner.

Further first-half scores from Greg Inglis, Morris, Cameron Smith and Cooper Cronk were added as Australia took a 38-0 lead at half time.

Inglis went over for his second before Hayne scored the final three tries as America were kept out down the other end.

Australia will next face either Samoa or Fiji in the last four.
