Alex Gregory hopes to continue legacy

Alex Gregory, who will make his Olympic debut in the men's coxless four event later today, says that Team GB's proud rowing history inspires him.

Alex Gregory has said that Team GB's proud rowing history will inspire him when he makes his Olympic debut in the men's coxless four event later today.

The 28-year-old, along with teammates Andrew Triggs Hodge, Tom James and Pete Reed, is coached by Jurgen Grobler.

"I am aware of the history and that is a really good thing," said Gregory. "It is inspirational and it gives me confidence that, as a coach, Jurgen Grobler has got crews to gold medals in the past.

"You can't rely on that but it is in the back of our minds. It is an honour to be in the position I am in and I really hope I can continue the legacy.

"It gives me motivation."

Grobler has mentored eight Olympic champions during a glittering 40-year career.
