Boat Race interrupted by swimmer

Today's 158th Boat Race between Cambridge and Oxford was halted by a swimmer in the River Thames.

The incident occurred after 10 minutes and 30 seconds with the two teams level.

Both teams were forced to stop while the man was detained by police, before returning to the halfway point to restart.

Cambridge went on to win the race by a considerable margin, thanks largely to the Oxford team breaking an oar.

Oxford bow man Alex Woods collapsed in the boat after they crossed the line and was transferred to Charing Cross Hospital for treatment.

As a result, the traditional post-race presentation ceremony was abandoned.
