Mayson wins July Cup

Richard Fahey's Mayson caused a shock at Newmarket this afternoon by winning the July Cup.

The 20-1 shot was taken to the front of the field by champion jockey Paul Hanagan early on in the race.

From there, he was rarely challenged as the victory was secured by five lengths from The Cheka in second spot.

Pre-race favourite Society Rock, who started the race with odds of around 7-2, rounded off the top three.
