Frankie Dettori takes first place at Sandown

Frankie Dettori rides 5-2 favourite Asian Trader to victory in the Lammas Lane Handicap at Sandown.

Frankie Dettori has secured victory in the Lammas Lane Handicap at Sandown, his first win since returning from a six-month drugs ban.

The Italian jockey rode 5-2 favourite Asian Trader to victory across five furlongs, with Alnoomaas coming in second place and Gladiatrix in third.

"I've only been riding five days but I've done a lot of ground work and even since the first day I've never felt out of place," BBC Sport quotes him as saying.

"I'm very pleased. I thought the first few days I didn't really have very much but today was the day I had some good chances and if I didn't win today I have 10 rides on Saturday and one of them has to win!

"Obviously I was a bit worried on the first day but your adrenalin takes over, it's something you've been doing for 25 years and I've had nearly 20,000 rides so it's not something new to me."

Dettori made his comeback at last week's Epsom Derby, but had gone 11 races without a win prior to his Sandown victory.
