Monday's meeting at Warwick abandoned

The New Year's Eve race meeting at Warwick is abandoned because of 11mm of rain on Saturday.

Warwick's race meeting on New Year's Eve has been abandoned because of a waterlogged track.

Clerk of the course Sulekha Varma inspected the track at 8.30am this morning but found conditions to be unraceable for Monday after 11mm of rain on Saturday.

"We had 11mm in total yesterday which left large areas of standing water," Varma said.

"We already knew we were not in a position to take much more rain but we actually had more than was forecast.

"Further heavy rain is forecast this afternoon and overnight so there is no prospect of the track improving."

Today's meeting at Taunton does however go ahead following an inspection this morning. The first race is at 12:40 and the going is heavy.
