Green Moon wins Melbourne Cup

Green Moon has emerged victorious in the 152nd Melbourne Cup in Flemington.

The 19-1 shot, ridden by Brett Prebble, won the two-mile handicap by a length from Fiorente.

Glencadam Gold was the long-time leader of the £4m race before he was overtaken by Green Moon, who is trained in Australia by Robert Hickmott, a furlong and a half from home.

After the race, jockey Prebble told reporters: "He was never going to get beat."

Jakkalberry was the most impressive of the British contingent after he finished in third place.
