Cheltenham, Lingfield go ahead, Fontwell abandoned

This afternoon's race meetings at Cheltenham and Lingfield have been given the go-ahead but Sunday's card at Fontwell has been scrapped because of a waterlogged track.

Fontwell clerk of the course Edward Arkell had planned a 10am inspection this morning but said that there was "no point".

"There is no point delaying the decision," he said. "There is no doubt the meeting has no chance of going ahead.

"We were already waterlogged on Friday evening and we had another half of inch of rain overnight, so you can imagine the situation we're in now.

"We avoided all the snow, it came as rain instead."

A 7am inspection was ignored at Lingfield's all-weather track while Cheltenham's Festival Trials Day goes ahead with conditions heavy, soft in places.
