Karl Burke: 'Laurens going under radar ahead of 1,000 Guineas'

Trainer Karl Burke says that Laurens is 'going under the radar' ahead of the 1,000 Guineas, which will be held at Newmarket on Sunday.

Trainer Karl Burke has said that Laurens has got "a big chance" of claiming victory in this weekend's 1,000 Guineas.

Happily is considered to be the clear favourite to prevail at Newmarket, with Laurens regarded as one of a number of rivals for the 205th staging of the race.

However, Burke feels that the French filly is capable of causing a surprise, having previously earned success at the Suffolk course in October.

Burke is quoted by the Northern Echo as saying: "I think she's got a big chance. Her two-year-old form was very good and if anything I think she has improved on that. She's a well-balanced filly for one who is so big and who has such a massive stride.

"I think she's just gone under the radar a little bit. We analysed the times of that Group One. Everyone said September was unlucky and she was slightly impeded but they said she was quickening at the finish and it wasn't that – Laurens was slowing down and that was just weakness."

Laurens has recorded three wins and a second in her four previous outings.
