Virgin Bet Grand National odds and analysis (Saturday, 4 pm)

The market has moved considerably since Nick Rockett was withdrawn yesterday. I Am Maximus and Panic Attack are now joint favourites at 7/1, a notable development given Panic Attack was 12/1 at the start of the week. Willie Mullins’ horse carries top weight off 168 with Paul Townend riding, and his 2024 win and last year’s runner-up effort under that weight make him hard to oppose on course and distance form alone.

Panic Attack’s rise to co-favourite reflects genuine market confidence. Dan Skelton has had a superb season with her and the yard rarely goes to big handicaps without a plan. At 10 years old, she’s no longer young, but her form figures this campaign, 2-1-1-1-3, tells its own story.

Virgin Bet Grand National odds and analysis (Saturday, 4 pm)

Virgin Bet singles out Monty’s Star as the nap selection for the day. The argument is compelling: an abundance of Grade 1 assignments have left him with vastly more place prize money than win prize money, but this new trip can reveal him in a new light, just as it did for Minella Times in 2021 for the same yard.

At 14/1 he represents genuine each-way value with 6 places being paid. Gerri Colombe and Favori De Champdou are identified as serious each-way appeals for Gordon Elliott, while Johnnywho is flagged as potentially the best of the British-trained runners.

Today’s Saturday card preview is already worth noting ahead of tomorrow. The 14:30 Handicap Chase (3m 209y, 15 runners, Good to Soft) has Mr Hope Street at 9/4 for Harry Skelton and Deep Cave at 5/1. Virgin Bet are paying 5 places instead of 4 on that race.

The 15:30 Grade 1 Chase (7 runners) has Heart Wood at 11/8, with Gidleigh Park and Grey Dawning at 4/1. The 17:00 Grade 2 bumper has Bass Hunter at 2/1 for Chris Gordon, with 4 places instead of 3.

Virgin Bet Grand National offers for existing customers

  • 6 places instead of 4 on the Grand National is Virgin Bet’s headline extra place offer for Saturday: 1/5 odds on places 1-6, applicable when there are 20 or more runners. With 34 confirmed in the field, that’s guaranteed. Best Odds Guaranteed applies from 10 am on Saturday. The 14:30 today also carries 5 places instead of 4 for each-way bets.
  • Live streaming covers all UK and Irish racing across the festival, plus US, French and South African meetings. No stake restrictions. A funded account is all you need to watch. The Grand National is on ITV1 as well, but having it in the app alongside your bet is useful for in-running markets.
  • Best Odds Guaranteed applies from 10 am on race day across all UK and Irish racing. Take an early price on any Aintree runner and if the SP is bigger when the race starts, Virgin Bet pay the higher odds automatically.
