Wolves axe 'Money Shop' sponsorship
Wolverhampton Wanderers terminate their controversial shirt sponsorship deal with payday loan firm the Money Shop a year early.

Championship champions Wolverhampton Wanderers have terminated their controversial shirt sponsorship deal with loans firm Money Shop.

The Midlands side caused controversy among fans and local politicians when they signed a three-year deal with the payday loan firm in 2016 due to the nature of the company's business.

According to the Express & Star, however, Wolves have now pulled the plug on the deal - paying Money Shop out of the contract - ahead of their return to the Premier League for next season.

"The main thing is Wolves have got promoted to the Premier League, which is fantastic news for the club and for the city," Wolverhampton MP Pat McFadden, who had campaigned against the deal, told the newspaper. "Nothing should detract from that joyful moment.

"There was controversy when the deal with the Money Shop was agreed a couple of years ago and a number of fans were not happy with it. So I think a change to a new sponsor will be welcomed."

Wolves will end their season today with a trip to relegated Sunderland looking to break the 100-point barrier.
