Two Russian activists are detained in Sochi several hours before the Winter Olympics closing ceremony, according to their lawyer.

Two Russian activists were detained in Sochi several hours before the Winter Olympics closing ceremony.

Environmentalist Olga Noskovets and civil rights activist David Khakim were today picked up by the police in the district of Matsesta and taken away, according to lawyer Alexander Popkov.

Speaking to The AP, Popkov also said that he is trying to establish their whereabouts.

Earlier this week, Russian punk band Pussy Riot were beaten and whipped after staging a protest in the middle of Sochi.
