Andy Murray: 'I used to play tennis against Shaun Maloney'

Murray reveals Maloney's tennis past

British number one Andy Murray has revealed that he used to play tennis against Wigan Athletic star Shaun Maloney.

The Olympic champion made reference to Maloney's sporting past after he helped Wigan clinch the FA Cup trophy in a 1-0 victory over Manchester City on Saturday.

Murray wrote on Twitter: "I used to play tennis against Shaun Maloney. Pretty cool watching him play in FA Cup final a few years later!"

Maloney told The Sun: "I didn't know Andy had tweeted about me, so to have him saying something nice like that is another great element to a fantastic win. I just remember him being exceptionally talented.

"He's five years younger but we were playing in the same regional competitions, which says it all really. Did I ever beat him? Are you kidding? I was always better at football, and now I'm more sure than ever that I made the right choice."

Meanwhile, Wigan will drop into the Championship by the end of the season if they fail to win their last two remaining games.
