USA boss Jurgen Klinsmann issues 'get out of work' letter for Germany clash

Klinsmann issues 'get out of work' letter

Jurgen Klinsmann has called on companies around the United States to allow their workers time off to watch the USA's World Cup match against Germany by issuing a 'get out of work' letter.

The USA manager will lead the team in a crucial match against his native Germany on Thursday as both nations attempt to qualify for the knockout rounds in Brazil.

Ahead of the match, a printable letter has been released via Twitter, calling for employers to allow their workers a few hours off to watch the match, which will get underway at midday Eastern time.

The letter, signed by Klinsmann, reads: "I understand that this absence may reduce the productivity of your workplace but I can assure you that it is for an important cause."

The team's 2-1 victory over Ghana attracted a record US audience of 16 million, while almost 25m tuned in to watch their nation secure a 2-2 draw with Portugal on Monday.
