Video: Sunderland's Jermain Defoe booed at WWE event in Newcastle

Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe did not receive a warm welcome when he attended a WWE event in Newcastle on Thursday night.

The 32-year-old secured the Black Cats' fourth derby win on the bounce when his impressive volley was enough to give Sunderland all three points against the Magpies last weekend.

While being introduced to the crowd in the latest leg of WWE's UK tour, Defoe happily waved to the spectators, but he was greeted with more boos than cheers.

In the Premier League, Sunderland are currently three points above relegation with seven games left to play.
