Scottish FA to choose between Hampden Park, Murrayfield Stadium as Scotland home

The Scottish FA confirms that it will choose between Hampden Park and Murrayfield Stadium as the home of Scotland national team this summer.

The Scottish Football Association has begun the process to choose between Hampden Park and Murrayfield Stadium as the home of the Scotland national team.

A proposal to hold international matches and cup games at Celtic Park or Ibrox was rejected at a specially convened board meeting.

The SFA's 20-year lease on Hampden expires in 2020, with a renewal option, and the governing body has commissioned a feasibility study to consider all of its options for moving away from the national stadium.

Murrayfield, which hosts Scotland's rugby Tests, is one of the two options that the SFA are taking forward, as well as remaining at Hampden.

"The Scottish FA board met today to consider a comprehensive option review report examining the opportunities available beyond the term of the existing lease for the use of Hampden Park, which expires in 2020," a SFA press release read.

"Having considered all submissions and supporting documentation, the board has decided at this time to further develop two positive options: remaining at Hampden Park beyond 2020 and moving to BT Murrayfield. This decision was taken after considering the financial implications of all proposals submitted.

"Given the complexities of the discussion - as well as the social, economic and emotional impact of any final decision - the board was unanimous that more work requires to be undertaken to bring further clarity and certainty to any final decision.

"The next phase of the process will begin immediately with a view to final proposals being considered in the summer."

Celtic Park and Ibrox each hosted one match during the Euro 2016 qualifying campaign, and internationals have been held at both grounds previously.
